Running good for a change, no doubt the doom switch is just around the corner. I’ll be ready for it when it comes. I’m up 5k so far this month which is ridiculous for me considering I’ve only played 14k hands. Had a little scare today when I lost 3k or so in a row on stars (later switched to FullTilt and I recovered pretty well). Stars is so efing rigged its not even funny. I’m currently running at 6BB/100 at 400NL this month over 12k hands. Clearly sustainable. Yeah, pretty much just made this post to brag. I’ll have a nice month end graph in another week.
Hmm offtopic don’t have too much to say. I have a 2nd round interview with an options trading company next Friday that I’m getting flown out to Chicago for so that’s exciting. Kinda nervous for it. They e-mailed me some docs to read and study before I make it there. Seems kind of ridiculous how much effort I have put in these past 4 years just to get a job that will probably pay me ridiculously low compared to what potential poker income would be. Whatever, we will evaluate that choice if I get an offer and if not it’s kinda like meh whatev poka’s betta anyways. Am I right? Am I right?
PS Making music video playlists on youtube and then grinding poker while listening to them on repeat is the shiz
Yeah so in case you haven’t noticed I’ve been on a really long sabbatical and it has been fantastic. Basically I’ve gotten back to school and done nothing but drink, chase girls, drink, go to class sometimes, do a lil hdubs and that’s taken up most of my time. Fall break just happened and I was really bored – then I realized what I used to do when I was bored… play poker!
Above results are from the past two days of fall break. It’s been really nice playing again and I really feel driven to succeed once more. I played about 1000 hands at 200nl, got pretty bored, looked back through my pokertracker database and saw that I was a 3.5 BB/100 winner at 200NL for the past 100,000 hands and just said fuck it I’m playing 400nl. It was really swingy at first and obviously I am a little rusty but so far its going pretty good. Right now my bankroll is sitting right around 12k so I’m slightly underrolled (I recommend 50 buyins to feel absolutely comfortable at any given level) however I’ve withdrawn about 6k over the past couple of months to pay rent, new laptop etc.
Hmmm non poker related entertainment. I’ve always wanted a helper monkey and its been an ongoing conversation topic between me and my friends. I mean it would almost be worth it to be a paraplegic just so you could have a monkey do everything for you. If you don’t believe me and how sweet they would be check out this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPE_TxpOBEs&mode=related&search=
I mean if you had a helper monkey you literally wouldn’t have to do anything. You could train him to play poker for you even. Monkey bet 46 on table 4. Monkey go get me a soda. Monkey come take a shot w/ me. Monkey who would win in a fight? You or a kindergartener? What if one/both of you has a weapon? The possibilities are endless. If you would like to donate to my get a helper monkey fund you can send me a paypal transfer at rennhack@umich.edu (I believe they cost about $40k for the trained ones so maybe once I become mad baller rich I’ll get me one)
PS I hope I don’t get flamed for this or ppl don’t think I’m some kind of animal hater. I love animals and especially monkeys 🙂
I know its late and I haven’t posted in the past month but I’ve been busy with other things, sort of. I spent some time back in my home state NC, woot! and about a week in Vegas. In NC I lost ~$500 or so on my laptop and in vegas I won about that amount playing live. The image above is purely from my desktop.
I’ve actually really been enjoying my time away from the game. I am graduating in December and I try to enjoy every night I have in Ann Arbor now because I know my college life is coming to an end soon. At first I thought I was definitely going to take a couple months off after I graduate and play poker, play in world series etc and see how it goes. However, after talking with some of my peers, it sounds like I could get a starting job salary of ~70k straight out of school. I’m not sure I could pass on something that high as its pretty difficult and much more stressful to make this amount playing poker in a year.
This semester I’m taking a class on Entrepreneurship and it has been really interesting so far. We read an article about how a guy bartered a red paper clip into a house (you may have heard the story). My prof has made us sell something on ebay to start seed capital for a group project and he has also made us sign up a Weblo. Weblo is kind of similar to second life and world of warcraft in that it is a simulated world except it is a simulated world of real life not some fake world like second life if that makes sense. You can buy and sell everything in the world (someone bought England for like $60k real USD recently I believe). It’s pretty interesting and a great money making/investment tool that is just getting off the ground in my opinion. If you’re interested you can sign up through me weblo.com referral code 998d8. Both ebay and weblo are great alternative methods for generating revenue when things aren’t going well pokerwise or you just want a change of pace of things.
I just finished the worst session I have ever played. I thought I was really turning things around with my big win yesterday (slightly greater than today’s loss) but omg today was sick. I’m still up like $2k this month but I’m really frustrated right now and might not play again til saturday or something.
Lots of shit like this, obv chop right?
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1375143
AA loses to AKs all in Pre
AA loses to 67s all in on 3 bet flop of k73
A8o loses to TT on A8T board
QQ loses to AJ on KQT board
I think I’ll go jump off a bridge now, k bye.
Update: All is well again. I just pwned a bunch of guys at HU and recovered almost a grand. One huge fish personally donated like 4 buyins :).
I don’t care what anyone says the best feeling in the world is having a huge suckout on someone in a big pot.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1368002
Conversely the worst feeling in the world has to be making a big call and then getting sucked out on.

I’d love to hear comments on other people’s opinions of poker’s best/worst feeling. Today was a rollercoaster up then down then ended up a couple buyins. That is all for today kiddies.
So I moved over to FTP for awhile and things are going pretty as you can see from the graph. Towards hand 12k I was really feeling down and depressed and starting to doubt my ability to play well anymore but all is well now :). I guess what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
I did download the EV calculator which you can find here 2+2 link or can be found at pokerevsoftware.com
I found that since may 1st my all in luck is -$3k from expectation. Sweet. I guess it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing I am playing good but it doesn’t put $$ in the bank for me. Whatever. Things that I would suggest to you when you are on a downswing are to try the following:
1. Take a look at how much you have won over a very long span of hands to put things in perspective. After I lost like 14 buyins I was really feeling bad, but then I went back and looked at how much I had made since summer started and realized it was way more than even ppl working professional internships are making.
2. Remember that downswings happen to everyone and are inevitable. You just have to play through them
3. Try writing some things down to think about constantly while you are playing. Some examples of stuff helpful to me are “Be patient. Wait for other people to make mistakes instead of trying to force something. It’s okay to breakeven in a session, but really important not to lose money. Be patient. Don’t tilt.”
4. Setting a time limit for playing and a stoploss can also definitely help if you’re not sure if you are playing your A game at the time. Its really important not to go into robot mode where you’re not really thinking about hands
5. Watch videos, study more, play fewer tables at a time, play shorter sessions.
Hope this helps! Also, I’ve decided to change my goal to play 50k hands by the end of the month. I’m just not gonna make it by the 20th and since cutting back on the number of tables I play (from 6 to 4 now after my breakeven stretch) I just can’t log as many hands anymore.

I haven’t posted much lately because I didn’t play much at the beginning of the month. Since then I’ve been tilting a lot and just not playing very well. I used to never tilt, but lately I’ve been losing lots of $$ to really bad players. Its REALLY frustrating to lose money to players playing greater than 40 percent of their hands and never folding any flop. I’ve just not been making many hands lately vs these players, which causes me to try and bluff them more and obv they call me down with their midpair. This in turn puts me on super monkey tilt and causes me to play bad vs the regulars. Here’s some hands.
Hands like these are really frustrating because his push is SOO bad I never call with less than QQ-AA or AK so obv I play well and lose a pretty huge pot
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1348675
This has been happening A LOT to me lately.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1348682
Tilt isn’t all bad though. Like today I was tilted and shoved 54s into a limp reraiser who called with his KK and I won. Obviously, its a horrible play by me but I can’t stand people who limp reraise me in 6max and its one of my pet peeves. That and the minreraise preflop. SOOO annoying! Anyways like 2 minutes later he gifted me another stack in this hand.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?1348689
So I guess this is an example of my tilt provoking another person to tilt which in turn causes me to untilt and make money? lol. Anyways here’s another hand where I profited from “being on tilt” by overbetting the river. 🙂

Overall this month I’m up about $500 from a high of something like $2000 over 10k hands. I’m running at .79BB/100. Hopefully things will turn around and I can end this poor play and bad run of cards I’ve had lately. Anyways, GL at the tables and try not to tilt like me!
After much debate I have decided to split my goals up for August into 2 parts.
By August 20th I would like to make $10k. By my estimates this should take about 50k hands at 200nl, so with 19 days til my deadline I need to play on average 2600 hands per day. Since I probably will not play every day I think I’m just going to make a goal to play 3000 hands for 17 out of the next 19 days. Let the grind begin!
After I have made $10k (hopefully by August 20th) I will probably take a short break, buy a laptop and take another shot at 400nl. Best of luck at the tables this month, I’ll try to update every 10-15k hands with my progress.
So for July I had the following goals:
1. Make $4k (I’ve never set monetary goals before but hopefully playing mostly 200nl I can clear this)
2. Win my prop bet
3. Learn some omaha (maybe play 5-10k hands at 50nl)
4. Play at least 20k hands at 200nl
I managed to meet 1 & 4 while failing at 2 & 3. Overall I’m pretty happy with how th e month went though. My prop bet was really close. My hat goes off to whitewash who managed to eek out the win by about 1 buyin and sustained a very nice winrate over the 20k hands he played. You can check out his blog at http://whitewash1.blogspot.com/ The prop bet served its original purpose of motivating both of us to play a lot and make a lot. Right now I’m still mulling over what my goals are for August I’ll make another post soon enough.
Hands played: 4336
Net: +$170
So I played a sick amount of hands today but it was like cooler, cooler, cooler, bad beat all day long. I ran KT into KK on a KT4 board, lost with AQo when AJs shoved over my 4 bet PF etc. Unfortunately the only reason I’m up for the day is because I played some headsup on fulltilt and OMG is it juicy. People are soooo bad. I think next month I might just play a sick amount of HU 200nl. Also unfortunate is headsup profit does not count towards my prop bet so unless I win a decent amount tomorrow at 6max I think I’m gonna lose my prop bet which would suck.
Here is a link to a thread you need to read. Surprisingly simple thread but VERY informative. I guarantee you will learn something.
