Well since my last post a lot has happened pokerwise. I went on tilt one night after playing some 100NL and played 5/10 limit and lost about a grand. I then proceeded to lose a little over break playing on my dad’s very slow and small screened laptop. My bankroll is currently sitting at $870 as I recently paid $140 to become a member at sngicons.
My goals/new years resolutions are as follows:
Long term
1. Stay away from cash games and play only sngs until my bankroll is at least $4000
2. Make $100k this year playing poker
3. Double my bankroll every month for first few months of the year
4. Play tilt free and realize that it is much more important to avoid losing money than to try to force it and maybe win money.
January goals
1. Have bankroll hit $2000, if I make this mark before Jan 31 any leftover profit I intend to withdraw
2. Play at least 100 sngs per week (assuming a 20% ROI this is equivalent to $320 per week for $16 turbos)
3. Play only $16, $27, and maybe a few $60 9 person turbos. No other HU or MTT tournies or any cash games.
So I played some 100NL the other day with about 17 buyins. That was fun. I lost about 4 in won session and then won 5 in my next session. If I ever dropped to 10 buyins total I was definitely going to stop and go back to sngs. I def do not recommend playing so underolled to anyone. My roll is about $1825 right now. I’ve heard bad things about the $60 turbos(there’s not much edge in them) and I think I’m just going to grind the $27 turbos until I hit $2000 at which point I’m going to switch to 100NL and grind that for awhile. Pz.
I’m feeling lucky! Since my bad downswing I’ve gone on an even bigger upswing! It’s nice to see my play finally paying off. Here’s my stats for all the sngs I’ve played since the 100 $16 turbos. The majority of these are $27 turbos, with about 10 $60 turbos and a few HU sngs mixed in. I’m going to keep grinding these til I get 30 buyins for $60 turbos and then try to move up there permanently.

Since my last post I’ve played about 50 $27 turbos with some success. I could post stats – I think my ROI is like 20% but its for the most part meaningless with such a small sample. My bankrolls is about $1500 right now.
Tonight I played about 10 $60 turbos and ended up down about $60 so they didn’t go too well. I just wasn’t winning my coinflips. After the turbos I played about 2 hours of 6tabling 100NL and took some really rough beats. It seems that everytime all my money got in the middle I got sucked out on. I was pretty much running over the tables and playing really well but I had aces cracked twice, both on the river when villains rivered their sets (JJ and 88). I also lost with top set on a J96 board all in to QT that rivered a straight. Yeah, yeah another bad beat story, but whatever its my blog I’m allowed to vent. Overall for the night I ended up maybe like $40 so it was a pretty marginal evening. Hopefully finals will go well and I can really start playing some hands when I get back home for winter break.
So I’m pretty burnt out of school by now. I’m a junior at University of Michigan majoring in Industrial Engineering and really have lost most of my motivation to do well in school right now. On a brighter note I started playing poker again. I plan to grind my way up the pokerstars turbo sng ladder. Since my last post I lost about $500 and withdrew most of my bankroll down to like $500 total. Since thanksgiving break I started playing again and I’ve got my roll up to about $1500.
I’ve already played 100 $16 turbos and now I’m working on 100 of the $27 turbos. After I finish them I plan to play 100 $55 turbos and decide whether I should grind those for profit for awhile or move up once more to the $110. By Winter break (December 19th) I hope to be at the $55s. I’m currently quadtabling. My stats from the $16 – yes I know its a small sample and yes I know I ran really well.

Wow I only played 500 hands today but wow. 4xbb raise preflop makes a world of difference and makes the hands develop soooo much differently. It is much easier to pick up a pot with a continuation bet heads up than 3way and almost all the pots I play now are heads up. I really think I’ve cracked 100NL and expect to be making some huge profits in the weeks to come.
Today is Friday so I will be withdrawing my profits for the week which totals $307. Its pretty modest and almost all of it came today however for the two week total withdrawal of $767 this is about $20 more than I was making working 40 hours a week at my $12/hour job earlier this summer. I certainly didn’t play 40 hours a week and this doesn’t even include rakeback which should be up to about $500 by now for the month. I am pleased with these results though I would have hoped for higher. I move back up to school Monday so I won’t be playing nearly as much in the weeks to come but I think I will probably be able to make my rent payments for the year playing 100NL <10hours a week. 🙂

I think I’ve realized why I’ve been breaking even at 100NL(3BB/100 is basically breaking even IMO). Up until now I’ve been raising preflop 3 times the big blind plus one for every limper. After watching some other players better than me I really think 4 times the big blind plus one for every limper is much more ideal. You might say “Oh yeah I’m sure one big blind is going to make a lot of difference.” But the truth of the matter is “it is.” 4xbb standard raise juices the pot preflop for me so when I do win a pot its actually a substantial size. It also kicks more garbage hands out and keeps them from sticking around to suck out on me. I can’t count how many times my AK has been cracked by some K6 garbage or people calling out of the bb with complete crap. I’m not saying this isn’t going to happen anymore but on the flop when the pot is $6 my continuation bets were usually $4. Now on the flop the pot is $8 and my cont bet is $6. The difference between these continuation bet sizes is huge. People are much less willing to call with worse hands in the latter situation than in the former which directly correlates to me picking up more pots uncontested. It also allows me to build the pot a lot quicker with my good hands. I really feel a huge rush coming on soon.
Note: At first I thought 4xbb was bad because I thought I wasn’t going to get many worse hands to call me but people seem pretty wild lately on party (which I like) and seem to enjoy gambling it up with me. I sat with one guy today who was running like 55/40 and his standard raise was 7xbb. I only reraised him once with 99 and he pushed over. I instacalled and he showed AA. Needless to say I lost the pot but I am still happy with my play here.
I haven’t updated much lately and that’s mostly due to me not playing very much lately. I’m at about 5k hands this week – I’ll post ptracker ss tomorrow.
Hands played: 1500

I was out of town this weekend at a speed reading course so I was unable to play and update. I just got back and withdrew $460 of my profits from last week. This is more than I was making at my 40hr/week job so I’m extremely happy with this profit. I played a little $3/$6 limit today and made $100+ dollars. I think I could easily 4table these tables for long hours per day as it is not as taxing on the mind as NL and not as costly when you make one mistake. The downswings are lot bigger and potential profit to be made is a lot less however. We’ll see how it goes. Here’s my donk hand of the week. http://www.pokerhand.org/?464006 Yes, that guy did bet $104 into a $4 pot. I almost folded thinking A3 was a possibility. Updated ptracker stats:
I’m just going to roll back the stats and start off fresh for this week since my starting roll is essentially $2500 and go from there.
Hands played: Not many

Wow I cleaned up today playing mostly $5/$10 limit with some $3/$6 mixed in. The play is pretty atrocious in these shorthanded games on party. People will call you down with bottom pair while you’re sitting on top set. Sometimes they suckout which sucks but overall the party games I’ve been playing are really good. I might start playing these games exclusively for awhile until I start to run bad which I’m sure is inevitable :-). It was also nice to play a different game besides typical NL and was actually fun playing today for a change. Here’s the totals:
Hands played: ~1000 or so mostly 3tabling
Profit: $585
Roll: $2997
Total profit: $658
