Quick little day 3 update first tho. I played 1300 hands today and won about 2 buyins or $420. Almost all of this was HU so it was still a long day (ptracker says 6.5 hours, yesterday it says I played 8 hours, kinda sick imo). I’ll admit I did cave at the end of the day and play a little 2/4 6max plo. It was very swingy and I ended up about even. I feel like I’m a pretty damn mediocre plo player atm and I think I’m gonna get Parlay Slow from deucescracked to give me a few lessons if I continue playing plo in the future. I have been getting the itch to play some holdem lately. No poker tomorrow tho, gonna take it easy and hang out with the gf.

Without further adu here’s the graph:

ptracker:

and of course all in luck:

I also played about 6000 hands of plo and 2500 hands more of holdem on my laptop. Ended up losing about $1k on the laptop in holdem and winning something like $500 for the month in omaha(lost a bunch playing 2/4 at the beginning of month when I had no idea what I was doing) so total for the month without rakeback is like ~$11k or so. I think the graph pretty much says it all and explains my break from holdem for a bit for plo. Losing $15k is a lot of money to me.

This month I kinda feel like I’ve achieved a lot of goals I set out to do as a poker player. I feel like I’ve moved up to 5/10 and started beating it for the first time and I even managed to stack some of my idols this month. As far as further improvement in holdem I don’t think there is that much room for more unless it’s in the form of tilt control and making sure I don’t spite call 3 bets with QTs and stuff. Next month I am considering just grinding a lot of 5/10 without looking at any results for a whole month and just focus on making the correct decisions and playing my A game. Not sure if I could do it cuz I’m kinda a monkey when it comes to looking at the cashier but it seems good in theory and I may give it a go cuz I spend way too much time worrying about how I’m running and such and it’s just a bad mindset to have. Then again I could also see myself running bad/getting bored with that and go back to plo. We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.

If you haven’t seen leatherass’ blog recently on stoxpoker you should check it out. The dude is the ultimate grinder 8 tabling 5/10 for 8 hours a day and has played 500k hands so far this year and is up a cool 1/2 mil.

Hope your months went well both in life and in poker and if they didn’t, well, just remember things could always be worse

Played another 2000 hands today and made about 1/2 buyin or $120 or so. I definitely tilted a little bit today and didn’t play that great. It seems like just about everyone is a huge loose passive nit postflop who plays any 4 cards preflop. It’s felt like pulling teeth getting money in the pot because everyone wants to limp preflop, I would say 60% of the pots I am not in are limped pots, and postflop people don’t really raise or bet with anything less than a set but you better believe they will check call all sorts of garbage. Anyways it’s really annoying everyone seems to want to limp preflop and not continue unless they hit the nuts. People will even check call sets and not raise them on drawy boards. One guy today just called my cbet with 66xx on a J76 twotone flop which seems pretty horrid IMO. Some things I’ve noticed

-The low wrap hands kinda suck (2345, 3456 etc) They’re really only good if you flop a straight and that hardly ever happens. Even if you flop two pair its likely going to be counterfeited so you can’t play it aggressively and if you hit a flush it’s a weak one.
-No one is capable of vbing thin here. I’ve seen people check back small flushes, trips all sorts of things. A corollary to this is on the river if the board is paired or if a 3 flush hits and someone bets they always have a strong boat or the nut or 2nd nut flush so calling with anything less is burning money (which I’ve been doing).
-Boats less than the nut boat suck hard(ie 33xx on QQ3 flop or even 29xx on a 229 flop is not that good)
-Bluffing beyond a cbet is just plain burning money

I did play a little HU today and that is definitely more fun because some fish will play like 90% of their hands oop which is fine with me. I can get away with raising and playing 100% of my buttons I think. One major leak I think some people have is 3 betting HU in plo. I just don’t see any need for it and I’ve won some pretty big pots vs people when they jack up the pot pre oop and put themselves in really tough spots when I call. That’s about it for today – GL at the tables.

Played 2000 hands today and won 3.5 buyins or $700. I’m pretty happy with the results and definitely feel like I’m getting a better feel for the game. My first 1700 hands or so I played on stars and ended up breaking even. After I finished up getting my 10k VPPs for the month I switched to ftp and won my profit for the day pretty quickly. All I can say is the action on stars seems to suck compared to ftp cuz there’s no pot button and it makes a pretty big difference I think in PLO because people were betting things like 1/3 pot with weak hands on stars and then folding to raises when I had the nuts. Gonna stick to ftp for awhile and hope things continue to go well there. That’s all for now, GL at the tables.

I’ve decided to take a break from hold em for awhile and play strictly PLO. My goal is to start at 200PLO and move up when I’ve made 30 buyins cts style.

Lately I just kinda feel that NLH 6max is pretty much a solved game and the edge at 5/10+ is not that big. Odds are at your average table there are 4+ other regulars who pretty much know what they’re doing and while they do make some exploitable mistakes they’re not that big of ones and I just feel like I sit around all day waiting to get that AA vs AK all in preflop vs the regs and not get sucked out on. I’ve also been running/playing pretty poorly vs the really loose passive fish who never fold. I seem to get frustrated with not having hands when they open or limp and I’m just isolating them too weak and hopelessly trying to bluff them off bottom pair. It’s really damn frustrating to get called down with 44 on a K67 flop when I have some Q9 garbage or whatev I’m bluffing with. Lots of hands like these too where they call my 3 bets oop with such garbage I can’t hit my draw(or pair) to save my life. The obv adjustment is to just not cbet without hands but when you can’t hit any flops it becomes extremely frustrating/tilting.

Here’s a 2+2 which pretty much sums up my thoughts on holdem atm thread
I dunno, I just kinda feel like my NLH 6max game has kinda peaked and while I there’s still room for improvement in tilt control and playing better vs the fish, I just never seem to get in any kind of interesting pots anymore and I just kinda grind away waiting for run good to happen so I can make $$.

In PLO I think there is a lot more room for improvement and the winrates can be much higher. I think a good 2/4 PLO player could probably be able to make almost as much as a 5/10 NLH player. There also seems to be a lot of big PLO games running, more than hold em even, so it’s not like there’s not action at the higher games. So anyways that is the gameplan for now, I’ll try to update in the coming days with my progress.

I woke up yesterday and I don’t think I’ve ever been so sick in my life. I threw up at least 4 times yesterday and haven’t been able to keep anything down. Today I haven’t tried eating anything cuz I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to keep it down but basically I haven’t eaten anything in 40+ hours and I’m still not feeling well. Needless to say I haven’t played any poker in the last two days.

One exciting thing that I failed to mention was that on Monday I decided to hire an Indian web development http://www.provab.com/ to develop my poker website idea for me. Total cost is going to be $10k and my understanding is that includes web hosting for 1 year so I think its a pretty good deal. Hopefully the end product is what I’m hoping for and if it’s not, meh, I think it’s a better investment than a 50/100 shot and at least I’ll have something leftover if it’s worthless. The one thing that sucks is I have to wake up at like 9am now to meet with them on the phone/reply to their emails, but it’s all good. I hope this project turns out like I hope it will and in ~6weeks time or so I’ll be sure to make a big post about my website so ya’ll can go see it!

That’s it for now, not feeling well enough to go find interesting vids for ya, yer gonna have to find ’em for yourself today, sorry!

Here’s my wtf were they thinking hands of the day. Lost about $2gs and need to take a break from poker for awhile.

So I played pretty good today, made one questionable 5 bet shove vs an unknown with 77 but other than that very solid play. Still managed to lose about ~$5k, but I’m not that upset because other than that it was all bad beats. I played my first few hands of 10/20 after I was down like $3k at 5/10 – move up to win back losses amirite? Well at 10/20 I ended up getting it in with a set of deuces vs AK with the ace of hearts on a 28T all heart flop. River is 4h. gg 10/20 no more of that for awhile.

Later tonight I decided to play a little omaha cuz I haven’t played any in like 6 months and omg people are bad. I am a complete noob at the game and I probably ran hot but I don’t even think I ran amazing or anything and here are my results.

I can see what dodgy says about this game being really addictive and how you’re never going to be as good as you want to be. I’m really considering taking some time off from hold em and devoting some time to learning PLO because it seems like it’s much less of a preflop game with very little 3 betting and despite people saying variance is a bitch at PLO I’m not sure I totally agree with that yet. We’ll see, I may change my mind in the future.

Lost like $7k today mostly due to bad play. There were a couple coolers in there like AK vs AA blind vs blind but most of it was just me spewing. Days like these make me think I suck at poker and can be very trying emotionally. I guess I should expect this because before today I hadn’t had a a losing session in like a week, but most of those were very short sessions and very small wins. Luckily I’m still having a very good month like ~$20kish I just hope I can hold on to it for the rest of the month and not have any more bad days like today. Running bad sucks but there’s nothing I hate more than those days when I make a lot of bad mistakes and know it but can’t help myself for some reason. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

I have a confession to make. I think I like studying the game, discussing it with others, and watching videos of others playing more than I actually like playing myself. Lately I haven’t put very many hands and there’s just no excuse for it. I’m running good, playing good, and on one of the biggest heaters of my life, and yet… I get bored after like an hour. I dunno wtf is wrong w/ me. I’m throwing away loads of cash by not playing. Meh, hopefully I’ll grind in next couple of days to make up for it.

I watched American Gangster tonight and 21 a couple days ago. I’ve been waiting to see both of these movies for awhile and neither disappointed. 21 was quite a bit different than the book bringing down the house but entertaining and kinda what I expected nonetheless. I recommend them both if you manage to get some free time like me :).

Here’s a couple interesting hands I’ve played lately unorthodox style.

His flop check gave him away pretty bad. On river I was a little worried about 99, but I can’t really fold after I bet 1/5 pot on the river and get raised.

Today I spent a couple hours writing up a business plan for my poker site I’d like to start. Even put up an ad on craigslist looking for some coders so if this all works out I should be spending a lot more time on this project in the future. I’ve watched a LOT of funny videos in the past couple of days cause I’ve been so lazy so here’s a bunch for you viewing pleasure.
