Played my first wsop event yesterday but “shock” I didn’t end up winning a bracelet. It was a $1500 10-max event that I think was fairly soft that I ended up busting 540ish out of 2700 with 270 paying. I’m pretty happy I played as it was a good experience and I did have a good time. Daniel Negreanu(sp?) was at the table directly behind me when we first started and he busted in like 20 mins I think, mastrblaster was also at my table later and I got to see his bracelet which he just won which was cool too.

On to some hands. Early on I got Aces a couple of times but didn’t get much action just picked up blinds or 3 bet and they folded. With blinds at 25/50 still some asian dude opens the CO to 200 and I look down at AKo from the sb and put him all in for 650 total. He calls it off with 78o and flop is 456. Nice. Down to 2500 or something at this point.

With blinds still at 25/50 I open to 150 utg with AKo and big blind defends which seems to be pretty common for these tournament players who seem to hate having their blinds stolen. Flop comes pretty gin for me, K62 rainbow. He check calls my 225 cbet. Turn is the Ad putting a flushdraw out there. He checks again and I tank for a bit – a little worried about a set and not sure if he’ll pay off with a worse king I decide to check back. River is the 3d completing the backdoor flush. He leads for 350 and I tank for a bit and end up shoving for 1700 more figuring he would have bet more w/ a set. He snapcalls w/ K2o for a flopped two pair. Well played sir.

With blinds at 50/100 there is a dead sb and folds around to me on the button which I open to 300 with 97s. BB defends(of course) and flop comes Ts8h6h with two hearts. He check calls my 400 cbet and turn is 7s putting two flushdraws out. He check folds to my 1000 turn bet and I’m sitting on like 6.5k or something.

Next interesting hand I play I open to 300 with AQo utg+1 and thugish looking 30 yr old dude asks how much I have left and then defends from sb or bb I forget. Flop comes KdJdTs (I’m good at flopping the nuts) and he check calls my 400 cbet. Turn is the Qc and he check calls my 850 turn bet. River is the Qd completing the flush and pairing the board and he donk shoves his last 1750 or so in. I tank for quite sometime and someone ends up calling a clock on me. I think it’s unlikely he has a Q since there’s only 1 left in the deck but I decide I don’t think he’s good enough to play an Ace this way to try and get me off a chop and probably just couldn’t fold his flushdraw and is passive enough to check call flop & turn w/ TT/JJ or whatever and end up folding leaving me at 3800 or so for the break.

With blinds at 100/200 I get moved to a new table and play pretty nitty reshoving AKo once and picking up blinds+open. Next interesting hands I have like 4500 I think and young kid wearing a Miami sweatshirt w/ quite a few chips opens to 600 from hijack and I flat QQ on button and bb comes along. Flop is 69J with a flushdraw and both check to me and I throw out a 1k chip. BB folds and Miami guy shoves all-in. I snap & he tables JTo. Turn is a 9, river is a T, & I double up with a better two pair.

Only other hand I played at this table 50ish talkative live pro I believe opens utg+2 and I flat 22 directly to his left. Board comes A96xx and it gets checked down w/ him saying “king high” on the river. Dunno why he’s not cbetting but whatever.

I get moved to a new table with “gunningforyou” who is actually mastrblaster two to my right which I didn’t know at the time(he just won the $5k freezeout & a bracelet for like $750k) and he’s opening like every pot. Blinds go up & there are antes now so it is definitely profitable but I feel like I have a pretty good seat at the table considering I can just re-ship on him pretty light and I don’t think he’ll call off his stack too light either. I get pretty card dead and get blinded away before finally reshoving over his button open from my BB with Q9o which he folds. Nice. I pretty much fold my way to dinner break and am sitting on 8500.

After break blinds are 300/600 with a 75 ante and I open 99 in EP. Big blind defends and flop comes QT7. It gets checked down with blanks coming on turn & river and I win vs 55. One more orbit around and I open to 1500 with JJ in EP and oldish guy goes all in for 3300 more, I snap and win vs his 77. Later I defend my bb with J9s vs mastrblaster’s btn steal and flop comes Qd8s7s giving me a flushdraw and gutterball. I check/shove over his 1700 cbet and take it down to put me at about 17.5k.

Now the bustout hand. Blinds still at 300/600 with 75 ante and it folds to me on button with Tc8c. I open to 1500 and 28ish guy with a nice watch who I’m not really sure is good or not defends his bb. Flop comes Ts9s6h. He checks and I cbet 2200 which he raises to 8k pretty quickly. I ask if he has me covered, tank a little bit, but I’m pretty sure he has some QJ/KJ overs+FD hand that I’m slightly ahead of and jam all in on. He calls and tables QhJc. Turn is the 6c or some brick and river is the 8h giving me two pair but him the straight and I’m out. Not gonna moan or whatever but such is tournaments. Average stack was about 12k at the time so it was a pretty massive pot I think.

I dunno if I’ll play anymore of these, there’s definitely good value in them but by the time the dinner break came I didn’t even really want to play poker anymore that day. After 6 hours of poker in one day I’m pretty tired and just want to relax but tournaments you have no choice – you have to play until bust. Whatevs I had a good time & whatnot hope you enjoyed the trip report.
